On January 28th the 1st Annual Simon Spine 5k was held in Sugar Land along with the USA Fit Marathon and Fort Bend Kia Half Marathon. The Simon Spine 5k is a family friendly event that included participants of all ages and running levels. Many of our office’s runners/patients participated in one of the events. The event raises funds for the Fort Bend Education Foundation, with donations being earmarked for teacher and student grants. The total number of participants this year was above 610 and the Simon Spine team, was at the finish line to hand out the Finisher metals to all runners Dr. Simon and Dr. Price had the privilege of congratulating and awarding the top 3 places for various age groups of female and male competitors, with an overall award for male/female youth and adult participants. We had the Simon Spine tent and tables set up to aide in the recovery process for runners of all three events and we had the privilege to work on over 155 participants. There were some really great stories shared and we were very happy to get to be a part of them.
Congratulations to Jan Schiff Elementary for winning the 2018 USA Fit School Challenge making it their second year in a row as the “fittest” school in Fort Bend County. This challenge encourages youth to participate in fitness programs and rewards the school with the right to display the Fittest School Traveling Trophy for the next year along with $250 in PE equipment.
